Baby Twin - problem w/ Coffee Dispensing Buttons
« on: December 06, 2017, 10:19:27 AM »
On my 2011 Baby Twin, the two "Coffee Dispensing Buttons" are not working correctly.  After the machine is warmed up, when either one is pressed, there is a single "click" noise and nothing else happens.  However, if I put the machine into "Programming Mode", by holding down the "Dose Programming/Manual Button" for several seconds, the "Coffee Dispensing Buttons" seem to work.  Pressing the first one produces a 50ml shot with pre-infusion and pressing the second one a 70ml shot with no pre-infusion.

The "Dose Programming/Manual Button" also works in the normal manual mode.  And the Water and Steam buttons also work fine.  I'm not able to program the "Coffee Dispensing Buttons" because the machine automatically shuts off after dispensing the above mentioned amounts of water.

Despite its age, the machine has only been used about 100 times.  I opened the machine and it's dry and clean inside.

Any suggestions on getting the buttons to work correctly would be greatly appreciated.

The usual culprit is the control board. Are you up to repairing it or replacing it?

I could, but my patience is wearing thin with this machine.  Unfortunately, it's been problematic since we bought it new in 2011 and a control board sounds expensive.

I have no idea what a replacement control board will cost or it's availability in your location. If you think you can fiddle with the control board yourself, the first thing to do is try to located where that click is coming. A visual inspection of the solder of this component might just require re-soldering. For now, using it on manual mode via the Programming Mode is your best work around. A 50ml shot is more than enough.
