Gaggia Carezza Deluxe - low steampower/boiling milk
« on: October 04, 2017, 01:52:58 AM »
Hello,

I tried to google my problem, but no luck so far. So this is pretty much my only hope.

I have my Gaggia Carezza Deluxe for 2 years now. There was no problem, until now.
Suddenly my pannarelo dost not froth milk properly, only thing it does is boil milk.

I tried to clean it as much as I could, machine was regurarly descaled every 3 months and I have to idea how I could fix it. One day it worked, another didn't.
Also I've noticed steam pressure when I switch to steam, is ok for like 3 seconds and then it's just pretty much hot air, which boils the milk.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to GUG! Have a look at our Reference Library. There you will find how to test your steam thermostat which is the likely culprit and easily replaced. Post again with your results after the test.

ok, so I tried the test....result is: Water was almost boiling (I could put tea in it), it was certainly over 60°C. So replacement because it's running to cool is not the case.

Any other ideas?

How did you do your cleaning of the steam wand?  "as much as I could" doesn't sound like you are sure it is completely clear of milk residue, which is why I am asking.

Is "certainly over 60C" a guess estimate? Did you use a frothing thermometer and the suggested 10oz of room temp water? Did you remove the frothing attachment and use the bare steam pipe when you performed the test?

Well I don't have any thermometer at disposal, but I'm sure the water was over 60°C.

Yes, I did remove attachments.

As for the cleaning I used hot water for attachment and the steam pipe itself (looked like brand new).

Not much we can do for you I guess if you can't tell us the precise temperature of the 10 ounces of water when the boiler kicks back in. Just replace the steam tstat and see where it takes you. Not sure if that will be cheaper than a frothing thermometer but maybe you can get both.

At the very least, take the steam wand off and soak the whole thing in Cafiza.  That way you can make sure there is no dried milk in the passageway;  rinse;  repeat.
Even a new steam stat (which you may very well need) won't help if the wand itself is clogged.

Oh dear, I've had the wrong end of the stick here.
Gaggia has a long history of re-using the names of their good and trusty espresso machines for new and not so trusty espresso machines.

The Carezza that some of us are familiar with is here:
http://www.gaggiausersgroup.com/index.php?action=ezportal;sa=page;p=56

The Carezza Deluxe you seem to have is an entirely different beast:
http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?slg=en&scy=be&ctn=RI8525/01

And since it has a stainless steel boiler, I'm going to move it to the appropriate forum.
