Should a light come on when steam is ready on Gaggia Classic?

Still working through the eccentricities of this new-to-me machine. It's a 2015 Classic, made in Romania but has all the nice guts of a real Italian machine (have q's about that, too, but in a separate thread). I replaced the steam wand with the Silvia one and it doesn't seem to put out a lot of steam or at a very hot temp and no light on the steam switch ever comes on. I will take it off and make sure it's clear of sediment as I don't think I did that after manually descaling this machine. But, water jets out very nicely when running the pump, so if it's blocked it's not blocked very much. The machine body and top panel gets plenty hot when the steam switch is on, so the thermostat seems to be running fine. Ideas for things to check?

Yes! You can check the Reference Library on the many test procedures that you can do with your EBay found abused Gaggia Classic.
